To the best of your ability, I want you to think about how your average week breaks down.
- The chart below will ask you to list a daily function, estimate how much time you spend on it, and to convert that time into a percentage of your week.
- If you spend less than one hour on a task then just convert it to a fraction. For example 15 minutes =0.25, 30 minutes = 0.5, 45 minutes = 0.75 and so on.
- Tasks are defined as things that you do such as: Sleeping, eating, commuting, grooming, working (obviously), watching shows, doing the bathroom, watching shows, surfing the internet, taking care of children, exercising, etc.
To find out your percentage simply take the amount of time you spent and divide it by 168 (the number of hours in a week). So for example if I spent 10 hours per week commuting to and from work, I would do 10/168 = 0.059. So I spend 5.9% of my week (or 6% if I want to round up) commuting to work.
Example Chart:
ACTIVITY | TIME SPENT PER WEEK | % OF WEEK |
Sleeping | 49 hours | 29% |
Commuting to Work | 12 hours | 7% |
Eating | 14 hours | 8% |
Work | 40 hours | 23% |
Netflix | 17 hours | 10% |
Exercise | 1 hour | 0.5% |
Chasing after my children | 9 hours | 5.5% |

Taking a look at how your time is spent, reflect on the following questions:
Where do you spend most of your time (top 3)?
The top 3 areas I spend most of my time in are:
1)___________________________________________________________________________
2)___________________________________________________________________________
3)___________________________________________________________________________
What are some areas you are spending too little time on (or another way to ask this question is: what do you wish you were spending more time doing?)
Some areas I wish spent more time on are:
1)___________________________________________________________________________
2)___________________________________________________________________________
3)___________________________________________________________________________
Where do the most inefficient uses of your time occur?
My top inefficient uses of time are in the following areas:
1)___________________________________________________________________________
2)___________________________________________________________________________
3)___________________________________________________________________________
Based on your selections, how much time can you cut from these inefficiencies? Which life aspects will you “give” that time to.
Example:
In the chart above I spent 17 hours per week watching Netflix and only 1 hour per week exercising. My goal is to exercise 5 hours per week. I am going to adjust my week to look like this:
ACTIVITY | TIME SPENT PER WEEK | % OF WEEK |
Sleeping | 49 hours | 29% |
Commuting to Work | 12 hours | 7% |
Eating | 14 hours | 8% |
Work | 40 hours | 23% |
Netflix | 13 hours | 7.7% |
Exercise | 5 hours | 3% |
Chasing after my children | 9 hours | 5.5% |
What will your changes look like?
